Halfway through a bottle of wine with a good buddy last Thursday night, the conversation turned to blog talk. My friend commented that I, your pal Mary, was negative. Or at least that this blog was negative. Now granted, this friend is a native Californian and they do tend to be rather nice people. A calm, gentle people perhaps tinged with a touch of smugness now and then, but who wouldn't be with near-perfect weather most of the time. [I can’t tell you how many times after moving here from the East coast people asked me, “Why are you so angry?” BECAUSE IT’S FUNNY! And there's a lot to be angry about. But I digress...]
Anyway, it got me to thinking. Am I too negative, should I just go with the flow more? Then, just in the nick of time, another good buddy, this one on the East coast and traveling to points even farther east of Eden, sent me a link to a song that so completely validates my point of view. [Apparently the farther east one goes, the more … angry … one becomes.] Really, check this song out … it’s hilarious. Warning: it’s not fit for children and you may find yourself singing “F**k you” in a cheery tone all day. But it’ll be worth it.
What do you think?
Dear Mary the Tech Worker!
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! I checked out your blogsite today and got inspired, maybe if I can drag myself away from couch and all my favorite TV shows, to write my own blog on dating at 40++. I found myself L’gOL and wondering, who is this brilliant writer that some “soft Californian” dared to call negative. Just last night, with a new love interest, he started coining the phrase, “Languaging… languaging…” He finds my choice in words filled with too much brevity, and I’ll insert a word for him, “harsh”. I too can relate to thin-skin-edness-ness of Californian’s. I’ve taken to calling myself the “mis-placed New Yorker, who never lived in New York!”
Keep writing… I enjoy your humor and negativity if it can be called that. And is there a way to be alerted to your blog updates. I’m in marketing, but obviously not savvy enough to figure out how to be alerted to new postings… Or is it, do I just have to remember to check in on my own? Hum!
Cheers to you Mary the Tech Worker! I remember those days in the techy world.
Signed, happy doing marketing at a non-profit.
Thanks, happy marketing! Always great to hear from a fan! Let's try not to be too hard on our fellow Californians, they can't help who they are anymore than we can. [Not that *we'd* want to, of course!]
ReplyDeleteYou can get blog updates, btw, by signing up for an RSS feed on my site. Hope you do. Elsewise, I'll have to email you each and every time I post. :)
Yer pal,
Mary
P.S. What's L'gOL? LaughING Out Loud? Why the 'g? Looks like L'oreal. Is this the French version of LOL?
Good grief!! How can you stand those soft Californians... and it only took half a bottle of wine before making a comment about negativity? I bet it was a screw-top too....
ReplyDeletei beg to differ having lived my entire life in the state of california. my partner guy hails for the great(?) state of new jersey and is as thin-skinned as they come. i am constantly taking care of what i say around him. hmmm...
ReplyDeleteWe all do the best we can, JP, remember that. Some are thin some are thick skinned. And those of us from New Jersey, well, they face special challenges. :)
