Top Ten List

I've been thinking of lists lately. Not much of a list maker myself, but there are several that swirl around in my head and mostly surface on a Monday. Here's one:

Top ten things *not* to say when your boss gives you a new project:

10. This looks hard.
9. Why can't *you* do it?
8. I'm too busy.
7. This seems like a waste of time.
6. This seems stupid.
5. I'm too strategic for this kind of project.
4. I'm too tactical for this kind of project.
3. This shouldn't take me much time.
2. Oh, good, I haven't had much to do lately.
1. This looks easy.

  2. In my salad days, when my first boss ever asked me to write a report about some research I'd done, I actually asked her how long she wanted the report to be. I'm blushing as I admit this....

  6. But seriously, I used to work with an incredibly smart gal who would respond to her boss by looking him in the eye and saying, "Fine. I'll do it. Look at this list of five projects you've already given me and tell me which ones I can table to free up my time."

  9. MTTW - I love this top ten list!! Hilarious, witty, relevant and Very Mary The Tech Worker! Very that! I particularly enjoy the posts you write on your workplace experience. I think I'm vicariously living through your venting about the work environment. This reminds me of the post on the office meeting and "rolling your eyes to relieve stress!" i am still worshipping that!
